The Zetter Townhouse hotel collection has swelled once again, this time with the addition of a 24-room property in Marylebone’s Portland Village. Like the Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell, the hotel is conceptualised as the ‘home’ of a fictional character; in this case, wicked Uncle Seymour, an eccentric, well-travelled gambler who has filled his property with tchotkes and mementoes from his Grand Tour. As such, guests can expect hand-designed wallpaper, inspired by 18th century crochet patterns, antique rugs and bespoke furniture, all brought together by esteemed designer Russell Sage. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the the Rooftop Apartment, with its terrace, roll top bath and private staircase — one presumes for clandestine meetings in the dead of the night. At ground level, Seymour’s Parlour — an all day dining spot and cocktail bar lounge — draws inspiration from a traditional Georgian drawing room, with cocktails made to long-forgotten recipes served over a roaring fire. It’ll all be a welcome addition to a part of town where such intimacy and eclecticism are prized rarities.
