Weekend Guide Chocolate Week Special 17.10.14: Top 5 Chocolate Shops And Shows

‘Switzerland is a place where they don’t like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate’. Larry David

Sounds eminently sane to us. And with London Chocolate Week in full swing we’d take chocolate over fighting (and even skiing) any day.

Here are our top five chocolate havens for the cocoa-inclined to ensure you get your sugar fix this weekend.

1. The Chocolate Show

An imperative for every chocoholic (i.e. everyone, minus a few weirdos). Expect tastings from the best chocolatiers in the land, as well as a chocolate couture fashion show made entirely from the sweet stuff and thus combining two of our favourite things…

The Chocolate Show; £12.50; 17-19 October; Kensington Olympia Exhibition Centre, West Hammersmith Road, W14 8UX; Opening hours: Fri & Sat 10:00-19:00, Sun 10:00-18:00; salonduchocolat.co.uk

2. Melt

This Ledbury Road chocolatier has fans in high places; Harrods Magazine, The Observer and Timeout have heralded it as the place to go for a sugar fix. And it’s no wonder – with a bespoke chocolate service and the team making fresh truffles daily, it doesn’t come more lovingly made than this.

Melt; 59 Ledbury Road, W11 2AA; Opening hours: Mon-Sat 10:00-18:30, Sun 11:00-16:00; meltchocolates.com

3. Artisan Du Chocolat

Salted caramel is a the culinary craze de nos jours; Nigella is a big fan, as are countless chefs and punters across the land. The eminently brilliant local Artisan Du Chocolat was the architect of this now ubiquitous taste sensation, so we have them to thank for this curiously delicious sugary-salty concoction.

Artisan Du Chocolat Boutique & Chocolateria; 81 Westbourne Grove, W2; Opening hours: Mon-Sat 10:00-19:00, Sun 12:00-17:00; artisanduchocolat.com

4. Casa Nova Chocolates

Portobello’s Casa Nova takes the brown stuff seriously. Make a beeline for its cosy interior to sample a range of dark and milk chocolate that hails from the best global producers, from Venezuela to Cuba and far beyond. Sugar fiends eat your hearts out.

Casa Nova Chocolates; 140 Portobello Road, W11 2DZ; Opening hours: Mon-Sun 08:00-20:00; facebook.com/CasaNovaChocolates

5. Whole Foods Market

Unsweetened, bitter, salted, sugar-free… you name it, Whole Foods Market has a surfeit of chocolate goodness to accommodate any craze for cocoa, no matter the preference.
