Once again, Electric Cinema Portobello pushes the boundaries of film viewing, this time with a revisit of its popular Not So Silent Movies event. Looking to the era of silent movies for inspiration, a film shown in Electric’s 65-seat theatre will be accompanied by an in-house band and special guest Ed Harcourt, who will join the musicians for improvised jam sessions led by the film’s content. Each movie will be chosen the night before by founder Philip Sheppard, leaving no time for rehearsal or preparation for the event. The result is a thoroughly bespoke film soundtrack that has the potential to jump from Brahms to hip-hop, and jazz to Stevie Wonder, guaranteeing a wholly unique cinematic experience.
