Already quivering with anticipation, we await the unveiling of the V & A’s definitive retrospective of one of the 20th century’s master photographers – Horst P Horst.
The man that shot the couture creations of Chanel, Schiaparelli and Vionnet in 1930s Paris, pioneered early colour techniques, and helped to launch the careers of countless models, enjoyed a prolific career spanning six decades. And over those sixty years, created an astonishing oeuvre that will form the basis of the display this autumn.
Alongside his most revered images, the V & A have sourced rare vintage prints and unpublished pictures, as well as archive film footage, sketchbooks, letters and iconic portraits of Hollywood stars. Then, the icing on the cake – an exact replica of his 1940s studio – all in all giving an unprecedented level of insight into the mind of one of the world’s greatest creative geniuses.
