West London is known for many a thing; we’re home to some of the world’s best museums, a raucous Caribbean festival, a very famous romantic comedy film and some rather splendid people.
Something the west might be less celebrated for, however, is cheap eats…
But for you and your piggy bank’s dining delight, we’re dispelling this misnomer with a list of three spots you can dine at for under (or just over) a fiver.
Banger Bros kicks off our list with, well… bangers. Uncompromising when it comes to quality of the meat, all of the sausages are carefully selected and sourced and come from happy, free-range animals where possible.
Expect to pay £3.95 for The Cumberland and The Dog and £4.95 for The Portuguese Chicken. Yes, please!
Banger Bros, 225a Portobello Road, W11 1LU, bangerbros.co.uk
Secondly, with its romantic atmosphere and couch-like cinema chairs, the Electric Cinema is the obvious spot to take a date. But if you’re really out to impress, you might like to take the lucky man/lady to the Diner for some snacks before the film commences. Just don’t let on that practically all the starters are under a fiver… try the pea mint and feta crostini, or stretch to £7 or £8 for steak tartare or squid.

And last but not least, head Union Tavern way on Wednesdays, where you’ll find a load of hungry quizzers buzzing for burgers. From 5pm onwards, the Union’s amazing handmade burgers are no more than £5 – and don’t forget that Wednesdays at the Union Tavern are also dedicated to quizzing. May your burger and your booze make you bright on the night!
